Video: Do Muslims in UAE Celebrate Christmas?

muslims celebrating christmas uae

Do Muslims celebrate Christmas? This is the main question answered by Emirati vlogger, Khalid Al Ameri. To answer it bluntly, NO, Muslims do NOT celebrate Christmas. But this enlightening and heartwarming video showcases unity in diversity and the tolerance towards non-Muslims in the UAE.

The observance of Christmas in the UAE goes beyond private festivities and gatherings. Instead, various people of different cultures and religions are given the freedom to practice their beliefs and to share it among fellow citizens. This is shown in the short video posted on Facebook by the Abu Dhabi-based artist.

Khalid Al Ameri Shares How Muslims Celebrate Christmas in the UAE

The UAE is home to more than 200 nationalities co-existing together as peacefully as possible. If anything, this number is a strong testament of unity in diversity. And as there are still lots of negative impressions about Muslims and Muslim countries in general, informative media such as Ameri’s video help enlighten minds and bring understanding as to how the many expats in the UAE celebrate Christmas in the Arab country.

At the beginning of the video, Khalid clearly points out that Muslims DO NOT celebrate Christmas, but he also gives us an insight of what it’s like to be in Abu Dhabi (capital city) in December, and for the majority of the emirates of the UAE.

As shown in his video, there are Christmas trees and bright decors that light up malls, hotels, and other public spaces.  Furthermore, many offices hold Christmas-themed parties too for non-Muslim employees. If you’ve had the chance to live in the UAE, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to be greeted by even the locals a  “happy Christmas”, the same way Christians would greet Muslims “Ramadan Kareem” during the Ramadan period.  This unique kind of experience is not something people who don’t know any better can easily comprehend unless they experience it for themselves.

Obviously, media has a lot to do with cultural perceptions especially with the kind of news that is being spread in households overseas. However, with posts like this, as shared on social media, a different kind of message can be shared – one that shows how living in the Middle East is not a bad thing at all.

Of course, there are laws and customs that need to be taken into consideration when living in the Middle East such as restrictions in social conduct (i.e., overly expressing public displays of affection such as kissing in public places), but overall, the people are happy enough to enjoy and express the freedom and openness which the country allows them to have.

Here is the video which shares the message of peace, respect, and acceptance which various nationalities living in the UAE share and enjoy:

Video: What it’s Like to Travel First Class via Emirates Airlines

Ever wondered what it means to fly first class? Take a look at this video of one lucky YouTube vlogger, Casey Neistat, who gets a premium cabin seat in no less than one of Middle East’s finest airlines, Emirates.

In his YouTube video, Casey walks us through the perks and amenities that come with a $21,635.30 flight. He compares this event to some of the most important experiences of his life such as the birth of his children, and such. In this 9-minute video, Casey gamely documents every aspect of his 14-hour flight from Dubai to New York which includes getting drinks from a motorized mini bar and a glorious in-flight shower that comes with the package. Yes, people. That is the ultimate dream: showering in an airplane thousands of feet off the ground. Nothing trumps that.

What It’s Like to Fly on a 21,000 USD Plane Ticket with Emirates

Many people feel iffy about travelling, especially on an airplane, yes – even to this very day! Why? Because there are just so many things that could possibly go wrong even if you haven’t boarded on your plane yet and up until your transit to where you’re headed for. Call it paranoia, but for some, getting on an airplane is just one of the worst experiences they could ever have.

However, Casey, as well-travelled as he is, still couldn’t hide his excitement when his flight was upgraded to first class as it was definitely a rare opportunity that anyone (in their whole lifetime), would ever expect to happen to them.

Just as his viewers are keeping high expectations, Casey also catches himself to be just as surprised with everything fine and dandy that came along with his first-class plane flight – privacy, hot shower, and no meal time. The experience was more of like going to a fancy hotel room, than getting on an actual flight.

The legroom isn’t just what makes it oh-so different from business class. You get to enjoy your own huge flat screen TV inside your private cabin and the food is just beyond what you could possibly expect.

Unlike regular flights, first-class travellers don’t follow a set meal time. You can order caviar off the menu anytime you feel like it. Also, drinks are neatly stacked on a mini bar within an arm’s reach from your seat. Attendants are round-the-clock available to help you with anything – like making your bed at night. Casey shares by the end of his video that when you take out all the painful parts of travelling, you get a novel experience from it and begin to have a whole new relationship with travelling.

If given the chance to fly first class, would you? Do you think all the amenities included make for a painless experience of travelling on a plane? Let us know your thoughts through the comment section below.

XDubai Wing Suit Adventure in Dubai Marina’s Vertical Maze Buildings

If you’ve ever been to Dubai, the sight of towering buildings such as the Marina Towers should be enough for most people to gasp and stare in awe. Now, imagine that, with a couple of guys flying through those tall towers, which XDubai has even labelled as the “Vertical Maze” for their high-altitude structural designs and mountain-like heights as well as their proximity to each other which kind of gives off a bird’s eye view of a maze or a labyrinth of some sort.

The challenge posed by flying in this type of environment is to find your way out of the “vertical maze” without crashing into any of the concrete buildings or into any of your fellow flyers, while managing to pull off some synchronized stunts with only a few seconds to spare considering the speed of your flight or crash.

Here is a YouTube video of four stuntmen on an extreme wing suit adventure in Dubai Marina:

Crazy, right? But just look at how amazing the experience must’ve been as it was caught on video and you know how much fun it was when you hear these experienced stuntmen giggle and scream out for joy after the activity has ended.

With the various opportunities presented by creative (and extreme) events groups such as XDubai, flying is no longer a dream that you can imagine or visit in your sleep. But given the opportunity as with the guys on the video, would you consider taking the challenge and fly through the vertical maze? Why and at what cost? XDubai and Flyboarders Having Fun in Dubai Waters

Before we rave and let loose our extreme alter-egos, let us first look at what “flyboarding” is all about. To the uninitiated (which is probably every one of us), flyboarding is a type of (an extreme) water sport activity wherein a user straps both feet onto a flyboard (similar to a wakeboard) in order to be propelled by water jets under the device to perform (acrobatic) stunts or simply just to have fun. As the activity has rapidly gained popularity since its invention in 2012, many touristic locations including Dubai have adopted the water sport activity as one of the recreational attractions in the city.

If you’re into water sports and are up for a new challenge, flyboarding is definitely one of those things that you need to try at least once in your life. And where else can you better enjoy this unique and exhilarating experience than in a progressive and beautiful place such as Dubai. It is most definitely safe as the activity has fully been set with safety regulations and equipment to make sure that adventure-seekers get the most out of this one-of-a-kind experience.

How has your summer been this year? Have you been raring to do something new, fun, and worth-noting in your bucket-list? Would you consider going on a flyboarding adventure in Dubai? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

Video: Jet Pilots Fly beside an Emirates A380 Aircraft

jetman emirates a380

The sky’s the limit… or so they say, but not for these two outstanding jet pilots, who, yet again, return for another challenge organized by Jetman Dubai. This time, it is to fly alongside the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Emirates A380 Plane.

The brilliant aerial performance as shown in this video features experienced Jetman pilots Yves Rossy and Vince Reffet, where the two are seen hovering above  and alongside one of the world’s largest passenger aircrafts, as they course over Palm Jumeirah for a piece of an up-close view of the Dubai skyline.

Here is a YouTube video clip of two jet pilots flying alongside an Emirates A380 Aircraft:

Jet Pilots Fly alongside an Emirates A380 Aircraft

And while this feat is not quite exactly the same as flying through tall buildings on a jet pack, one could only but wonder how challenging it must have been to fly beside a moving aircraft with engines blasting at maximum power, some thousands of feet above the ground.

Whatever is at stake on this death-defying stunt, surely: it is not for the faint of heart. The plane pilots together with Rossy and Reffet, must fly their engines with exact precision and distance from each other so as not to cause a collision in mid-air (because that is clearly not what everybody signed up for). Needless to say, in order to pull off this outrageous stunt, maximum planning and coordination must be perfectly executed.

And after they successfully do, it’s very reassuring to know that these aircraft pilots are always on top of their game to give us, their passengers, a world-class flight experience, even as they do it to pull off yet another insane stunt such as this. Other than the flight experience, there’re also plenty of things to look forward to from the new services offered by the Emirates A380 Hub which include a wide array of shops, dining outlets, as well as world-class lounges. Indeed, it is this type of first-class facilities that put an airline service such as the growing fleet of Emirates A380s rightfully on top of the world.

See for yourself and tell us how you felt as you were watching the aerial stunt unfold right before your eyes by writing a comment on the section below.

Video: Two Men in Jet Packs Fly Over Dubai Desert

Perhaps the best feeling known to man is the feeling of taking flight, but not for Swiss ex-fighter pilot Yves Rossy who knows this all too well as he holds the Guinness World Record for the first man to ever fly with a jet-propelled wing device. For this remarkable feat, he has been known to many as Jetman.

In this post we share a video clip of Jetman together with his flying partner, Veres Zoltan, who is an acrobatics champ, as they fly through the sky over the Dubai desert and perform some mind-blowing stunts that would leave you speechless, to say the least.

Two Jet packers Fly Over Dubai Desert

If you’re thinking why some people would even dare to do the unthinkable – maybe it’s for that rare rush of adrenaline, or the idea of trying out something that everyone else can’t be completely okay with. Whatever their reason is, there’s no argument that watching two grown adult men perform something (as silly) or crazy as jumping off a helicopter to “fly” on jetpacks is enough to pique one’s interest and to wonder how that is even possible.

Here is a YouTube clip of the two jet packers flying over Dubai Desert:

This amazing feat caught on video was made possible by Jetman Dubai, in partnership with XDubai. If you can imagine what it’s like to be up thousands of feet in the air and then zoom through the scenic landscapes of Dubai with just a jetpack strapped on your back as you perform beautiful stunts with only gravity leading the way, then you might be able to understand why Jetman and Zoltan would dare to take this kind of challenge.

To say that watching the two jet packers “fly” in sync as they carefully match their speed with each other as they course through the Dubai desert as wonderful is an understatement. But don’t take it from us.  Take it from Yves, who shared what the best part of the experience for him was: it’s being able to share that wonderful experience of “flying” with another person. With his background as a pilot, we’re pretty sure that the guy has done it a dozen of times and knows what it takes to fly like a pro, but to enjoy the feeling and the experience of flight with another enthusiast is truly something special. That just takes the experience to a whole new level.

This type of experience is not at all new in a progressive and beautiful city such as Dubai. Other than flying on a jetpack, that should be enough reason for anyone to visit and experience the charms of the city.

If given the chance, would you also like to fly on a jetpack, too? Who would you tag along? Let us know through the comment section below.
